Default Wine Stopper recommendations?

Do you have any recommended wine stoppers? (Something you put on an opened bottle so you can save it for later.)

Most are about $30, from what I saw. But, any recommendations?

Just use the old cork and put the wine in the fridge. Red's should keep for two - three days, whites up to a week.

I agree with Sean's approach. Youi can spend the $30 on a decent bottle of vino.

I suggest pouring into a 375 mL bottle first. I am a bit more sensitive and have to finish the wine the next day, very rarely will I find it enjoyable two days later. However, I do agree with Sean's recommendation - I have found no worthy added benefit from other systems.

My corkscrew has an attachment on it that comes off and doubles as a bottle stopper. I've been using that for my wine. I can't remember the name of it, but I found it at a grocery store, so I'm pretty sure it's common.

Should I not be using that?

Actually there are lots of wine stoppers available in the market. Why not try gassing? In which you spray inert gas in the bottle in order to displace oxygen. Thus stopping the oxygenation of your wine.

My plan has always been to finish the bottle first, re-cork it second. Doesn't make sense to spend money on a stopper, apply that dough to another bottle of fine wine.

I would have to agree that keeping the taste is important. I have not bought the stoppers simply because I have yet to find something that is comparable to just using the cork and putting the wine in the fridge. If you are really willing and want to purchase a stopper, I would check the local liquor store as they generally have a few to choose from or you can check them out online.

I had the same question a few years ago and started doing some research. The best solution was pouring into a 375ml bottle (because I wanted to put the bottle back in my wine cooler). It worked so well that I found a bottle supplier that had screw off caps and a label supplier that made removable labels so I could reuse the bottles. So many friends did the "you should sell these things"... so I now do.

WineCapsule

Give it a try!
