Color can give you hint how old the wine is. Usually, a white wines gain color as they age. Young red wines seems to be brighter in color whereas older ones tend to have tawny brown around the rim. Regardless of the age, colors of wine are just fun to see!

The year is put on the bottle. As it ages over time you will see the wine color darken as you have mentioned. But generally wines are better tasting over the years.

Yeah looking at the color of the wine is the easiest way to determine the age of the wine. But the actual factors like temperature and light should also be considered.

Actually the easiest way to tell the age of a wine is to look at the vintage date on the bottle!!! ;)
