The Vineyard of Poggiofoco and The Maremma Toscana.
The Poggio Foco Farm is located in the heart of one of the best country side of Italy, the Maremma Toscana. A wild land where the vineyards were first planted by the Spanish populations, which brought varieties of Grape such as the Alicante and Cabernet in this part of Tuscany. The wines of this land show a typical concentration of black berries and roasted plum, a silky body and deep color.
The sea side is only a few miles away, and the temperature range from day to night helps keeping those thick and full bodied wines fresh and acid.
The main activity of Francesco Kovarich, owner of the Vinery, is as skipper of sailing boats on the seas all over the World. His passion for wine making grown in the last years, and in the 2000 decided to start his own project, helped by the well known wine maker Carlo Ferrini, the same winemaker of Casanova di Neri, winner last year with his Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2001 of the Best World Wine Award for Wine Spectator.
Poggio Foco produces two wines: Sesà and Secondo.
The "Secondo" 2005 , a blend of Cabernet and Sangiovese, shows a rich and elegant nose of black and blue berries, plums and hearty notes. The mouth is very elegant and velvety with an impressive minerality, that makes you want to have another sip.Very good now, but will improve in the next 2-3 years. 88 points
The "Sesà" 2004 is the main wine of Poggio Foco; a Classic Maremma Blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Alicante. First vintage produced is 2002.It shows a dark ruby color and a very concentrate and deep mouth of Jam and Roasted fruits, hearty notes and a great minerality and acidity that keep the wine fresh and balanced.
